In France, the term bas bleu (bas, stocking; bleu, blue) is traditionally used to describe women with literary aspirations. In mid-18th century England, The Blue Stocking Society was an informal women’s social and educational movement that emphasized education, meanwhile a French version focused on individualism. I’d like to form a contemporary, decidedly more audacious interpretation called The Pink Stocking Society… Now I just need to work on a Mission Statement and Platform.
